Signs of a Dental Emergency
It’s not always easy to know what constitutes an emergency. Call us as soon as possible if your child has:
- A loose permanent (adult) tooth
- A severe toothache
- Pain that radiates from the tooth into the cheek
- Bleeding and aching gums
- A swollen jaw
- A canker sore that doesn’t heal
- A fractured tooth
Common Paediatric Dental Emergencies
Our team of pediatric dentists is trained and experienced to safely handle a variety of dental emergencies at KidsDent. We have the skills, experience, and compassion to help your child feel at ease during a stressful time.
Toothache
A toothache can interfere with your child’s day. A toothache can cause your child to stop eating, drinking, playing, sleeping, or brushing their teeth.
Toothaches can be caused by many different things, so it is important to contact your dentist as soon as possible following symptoms. While it is hard to see your child in pain, please try to avoid giving them any medication until you talk with us.
Dental Trauma
A traumatic dental injury can include a chipped or broken tooth, a knocked-out tooth, and enamel, root, or jaw fractures.
Chipped and broken teeth can be repaired if quick action is taken. Please call us immediately and we will give you our best guidance.
If your child has sustained a head injury at the same time as dental trauma, please consult a medical professional at a hospital or urgent care clinic. Head injuries should be cleared by a physician.
Dental Infection
Infected teeth can develop quickly and can lead to red and swollen gums, pain, fever, and or a swollen jaw.
Infection in a tooth can move to other parts of the body, so it needs to be treated as soon as possible by a dental professional. If you suspect your child has an infected tooth, please call us immediately.
Timing Matters During an Emergency
A quick response is essential during a dental emergency. Please contact us any time when your child needs urgent dental care. If the emergency occurs after hours, please call our emergency number at 416-249-3710 for guidance.
